79 Children Have Been Rescued From Locked Cars In Dubai This Year

The Dubai Police have reported that 79 children have been rescued from locked cars, this year alone.

And though the number of cases reported this year is slighter lower than the 86 cases reported in the same period last year, Dubai Police’s Search and Rescue Department still warned people from leaving children alone in cars, and urged parents to keep a close eye on their children at all times.

The police have issued a warning to parents; unattended children can fiddle with buttons and inadvertently lock themselves in, which could prove fatal.

Furthermore, leaving kids alone in cars can result in dizziness, disorientation, agitation, confusion, sluggishness, seizure, loss of consciousness. And sometimes, increased body temperature can lead to death.

Specialists explained that when a temperature is only 72 degrees outside a car, it increases inside of it by almost 40 degrees in one hour only. With 70% of the increase taking place in the first 30 minutes.

Children’s bodies are vulnerable, hence it warms up 3 to 5 times faster than an adult’s body. And it only takes a body temperature of 107 degrees for it to be fatal and result in a heat stroke.

Children left alone in cars are also in danger of being tightly strapped into the seat, or trapped between the seats, not able to move freely. Which might also endanger them.

Parents are advised not to leave their children alone in cars under any circumstances, NOT even for a little while.
