You have now reached what is considered to be full-term, even though you still have three weeks to go.
Despite this your baby is still growing and although a little crowded is likely to be quite happy to stick around for a while longer. Your baby is busy practising breathing for when he is out in the big wide world with you. You may see him sucking on a thumb or finger if you have a scan at this point, this sucking is a practice run for feeding in future. Your baby’s lungs are well developed although if you are having a c-section you would still be well advised to wait until 39 weeks when the baby is fully prepared unless there is a medical reason to expedite things.

You are now transferring lots of vital antibodies to help build baby’s immune system in preparation for birth when he will have to fend off germs and infection by himself. As he puts on the pounds your baby will start to look like the lovely cuddly little man you will soon meet and less like and alien.
